Train N’Delta youths from host communitys’ fund, PTI boss counsels

The Principal and Chief Executive of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State, Dr Henry Adimula, on Tuesday advised the leaders of the oil-rich Niger Delta region to set aside part of their host community fund for capacity building of the youths to reduce unemployment in the region.

Adimula made this statement at the closing ceremony and award of prizes to participants of the institute’s three-month CSR Computer Competency Skills Acquisition Development programme held for Urhobo Youths. Adimula said the training was organised by PTI for Urhobo host communities to empower the youths to be self-reliant.

He said, “I am very confident that the trainees were well developed within the three-month duration of the training. They were trained in computer appreciation and internet literacy, word processing, presentation skills using PowerPoint, spreadsheet and data management, graphic design – CorelDraw x8 and laptop repairs and maintenance.

“The fit-for-purpose training is in tandem with PTI”s motto – ‘Skill, Service and Progress’. We are in the Information and Communication Technology age, and the world currently is being driven by information.”

While urging the beneficiaries to imbibe the institute’s philosophy to put the skills acquired during the training to practice, the principal enjoined leaders of the host communities in the Niger Delta region to hold capacity building of their youths as a top priority.
