NSE To Honour Dangote, Innoson Motors, Others
— Nov 4, 2015 5:45 am |The Council of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has approved the conferment of Honorary Fellowship of the Society on the president/chief executive of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and the chairman of Innoson Group of Companies, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, and founder and chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola.
The honour would be conferred on the recipients at the opening ceremony of the NSE Annual Engineering Conference/Annual General Meeting billed to take place this month at Akure with the theme: “National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) 2014 Strategies for Implementation.”
A statement signed and made available to Leadership by the Head, Media & Publication of NSE, Abdulkadir Aliyu, said the award recipients were considered due to their respective dispositions as advocates of engineering advancement in Nigeria.
According to the statement, “The Council of NSE exercises the discretion to elect distinguished persons into the cadre of Honorary Fellowship, having been considered to have promoted engineering in all ramifications.
The statement quoted the president and chairman of the Council, Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, as saying that Alhaji Aliko Dangote has contributed immensely to the industrial growth of Nigeria which led to significant improvement in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
He noted that Dangote is acclaimed as the largest private sector employer of labour stressing that the company relied mostly on input from Nigerian engineers thereby promoting local content.
Olorunfemi maintained that Chief Innocent Chukwuma, who has made landmark achievements in engineering through entrepreneurship has provided direct and indirect employment to many Nigerian engineers.
He recalled that his company, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) Company, blazed the trail in March, 2014, as the first indigenous vehicles manufacturing company in Nigeria.
On Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, he said the Ondo governor would be honoured in recognition of his programme adding that he had effectively demonstrated his doggedness by appointing engineers in relevant sectors of Ondo’s ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) as well as his cabinet.
He further stated that Aare Afe Babalola, has developed a model for quality and functional engineering education and training in Nigeria by equipping its 37 engineering laboratories which earned him recognition from UNESCO as a model of excellence and a world-class university.
