Lagos school children's accident kills two and injures 12

Two children perished and 12 were injured in an accident at Grammar School in Ojodu-Berger, Lagos, according to the Lagos Police Department.

The casualties are pupils of Bab Fafunwa Millennium School, Ojodu, previously Ojodu Grammar School, according to Adekunle Ajisebutu, the police spokeswoman.

Witnesses who claim to have been killed in the accident dispute the police statistics.

Mr. Ajisebutu claimed that at approximately 2:15 p.m., a DAF truck with the registration number APP 438 YA, operated by Bolaji Kabiru, collided with some people, causing injuries.

"Two men died on the spot as a consequence of the accident, while seven females and five guys, totaling 12 victims, experienced varying degrees of injury."

"Corpses of the deceased pupils (whose identities are unknown) were evacuated with the assistance of FRSC officers and placed at the Mainland Hospital's Morgue in Yaba for autopsy," the police stated.

Traffic policemen and other responders were dispatched to the area, according to Mr. Ajisebutu, a chief superintendent of police.

The pupils were rushed to God's Apple City Hospital, St. Michael Hospital, and the Lagos State Emergency Hospital, Toll Gate, according to him.

"The erring driver was arrested and taken into custody by the police. The enraged students, who were subsequently joined by hoodlums, set fire to the accident vehicle, according to the police.

Mr. Ajisebutu went on to say that the students and hoodlums invaded the Ojodu Police Station in huge numbers, "demanding the driver's release for jungle justice."

"They grew violent when their demand was not satisfied. "They wrecked four cars parked on the police station grounds and another mobile truck on the highway in the process," Mr. Ajisebutu claimed.

Mr. Ajisebutu said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the deployment of tactical teams, the Rapid Response Squad, and other police officers to the location to avert a total collapse of law and order.

Mr. Ajisebutu added, "The demonstrators were skillfully removed with little force without resulting in any more injuries."

While expressing his condolences to the departed families, Mr. Odumosu urged sympathizers and other members of the public to give the police time to conduct a thorough investigation.
