On Saturday, armed individuals attacked a Nigerian military base in Katarko village in Yobe State's Gujba Local Government Area.
According to security and local sources, terrorists opened fire on security agents within the base, prompting inhabitants to flee to the bushes for protection.
Katarko lies 20 kilometers south of the state capital of Damaturu. Insurgent raids have occurred often in the area, resulting in casualties.
According to a security source, the terrorists attacked the military formation with ten gun trucks, carrying away stocks of weapons and ammunition.
Terrorists also attacked the military base, according to the source.
Modu Aji, a Katarko homeowner who talked with us from his farm, claimed he could hear gunshots and explosions from his property.
Hundreds of people were stranded as a result of the attack, which lasted over an hour, while troops from the checkpoint near Yobe State University barricaded the road.
Passengers who spoke with our reporter said they planned to continue their journey as soon as the route was reopened.
Others who have traveled as far as Gombe, Taraba, and Yola have already switched to a different route from Potiskum.
"Many of the drivers travelling to far regions like Yola, Gombe, and Taraba have departed to follow the Potiskum/Ashaka road, but some of us who are here will continue when the road is clear," said Musa Amodu, a driver.
The attack resulted in severe traffic and trapped motorists near Yobe State University.
