During the attack by gunmen on the Jos Medium Security Custodial Centre on Sunday, ten people were murdered and 252 convicts escaped.
Francis Enobore, the NCoS's spokesperson, revealed this in an Abuja statement on Monday.
According to him, the dead include a prison staff as well as nine convicts. After the invading gunmen were locked inside the center, they were murdered in a gun fight.
The militants stormed the custodial centre at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to PREMIUM TIMES, and engaged the NCoS security staff in a violent fire fight before moving into the yard.
We also stated that other escaped prisoners had been apprehended by the police.
Mr Enobore stated that 10 of the fugitive convicts had been apprehended so far, but 252 are still on the loose.
"Unfortunately, one of the NCoS Armed Squad members paid the ultimate price in the battle, and nine detainees also died." In the incident, another member of the Service was shot in the hand, and six convicts were also hurt.
"The Controller-General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the brave officer who paid the ultimate price in the encounter, promising that the death would not be in vain as all perpetrators would be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law."
"He thanked the officers and men of various security agencies for their cooperation in putting the situation under control," Mr Enobore said. "He informed members of the public that the safety of convicts, including their care and support, will continue to be a high priority in his administration."
The Jos Medium Security Centre held 1,060 prisoners before the incident, including 560 pre-trial detainees and 500 convicts.
