The state administration has declared that the shift to a four-day workweek will begin on December 1.
In the meanwhile, the administration has announced that public employees would be allowed to work from home on Fridays. Eventually, the new law will have an impact on the state's organized private sector.
Muyiwa Adekeye, Governor Nasir El-Media Rufai's Adviser, said as much in a statement released on Monday.
The change is intended to assist raise productivity, promote work-life balance, and allow people to spend more time with their family, rest, and agriculture, according to the statement.
"The measure also takes into account the lessons learned during the Covid-19 epidemic, which necessitated substantial loosening of previous working practices and the rise of virtual and distant working arrangements."
"From December 1, 2021, the Kaduna State Government will begin implementing transitional arrangements in the state's public service." Public workers' working hours have been changed to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as of that day.
"However, all public employees will work from home on Fridays, with the exception of those in schools and healthcare facilities." This temporary working arrangement will last until the government is ready to move on to the next stage of the transformation, which would see all MDAs in the state switch to a four-day week.
"During the transition and beyond, senior authorities are working on comprehensive instructions to guarantee that emergency services, education, and health systems in the state continue to provide services 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
"The government will also step up efforts to provide public employees with access to digital gadgets and platforms that will allow them to work efficiently from home." Given the state government's large ICT investments, it will guarantee that the majority of its automated services meet the performance standards necessary to provide residents with seamless access.
