Apart from the Nigerian government's proscription, the Senate Minority Leader, stated there are around 30 separatist organizations in Nigeria's south-east.
In the South-east, the struggle for an independent state, Biafra, led by IPOB, has resulted in murders and devastation.
Mr Abaribe (Abia-South/PDP), speaking on Channel TV on Tuesday, claimed that the media was giving the idea that IPOB was the sole organization fighting for Biafra in the South-east.
When the program's anchor, Seun Okinbaloye, questioned if he was an IPOB supporter, the senator made the statement.
"Are you an IPOB supporter?" Senator Okinbaloye was questioned by Mr Okinbaloye.
He answered, "I am a supporter of our people's cry against injustice."
"Last Friday, I was chairman of a book launch – Children of Biafra," Mr Abaribe continued. It's a story told through the perspective of a youngster about the Biafran conflict.
Several people wrote about their childhood memories, resulting in a moving book that everyone should read. And I mentioned in my statement that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar made a comment not long ago, whether jokingly or not. And that comment was that the government's actions and policies are making everyone into a Biafran. Everybody is whining about unfairness, marginalization, and a lack of opportunity.
"I support my people."
"Apart from IPOB, there are around 30 distinct separatist organizations."
"We can't handle our variety, which is why we're seeing agitations in different areas of Nigeria."
Senator Abaribe criticized President Muhammadu Buhari's government for Nigeria's ongoing security issues.
He said that the administration used a double standard in dealing with security issues in the Southeast, North East, and North West.
According to him, the administration labels IPOB members as terrorists while continuing to "beautify" insurgents in the north as robbers.
"The single most hazardous aspect is the inflow of non-Nigerians with military-grade weaponry who are sweeping over our nation, going into the countryside and wreaking mayhem, but no attempt is made to profile them or guarantee that there is a counter-surge against them." The only thing that has been going on is an attempt to achieve (an) agreement. How can you come to an agreement with a terrorist who is seeking to take over the country from the outside?"
The senator slammed the idea that Mr. Buhari inherited the present security issues from the government of Goodluck Jonathan.
"There was no insurgency in the North-west, no insurgency in the South-west, and no insurgency in the South-east in the run-up to the 2015 election."
"The situation in the South-South, in the Niger Delta, was substantially handled by President Yar'Adua's PDP government," he added.
Mr. Abaribe was one among the people who signed a guarantee for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu's bail release in 2017.
After fleeing Nigeria, Mr Kanu was "" in Kenya and returned to Nigeria in June of this year. In Abuja, he is on trial for suspected treason.
Senator Abaribe stated that he had no regrets about becoming a guarantee for Mr Kanu and that he would do it again if given the chance.
