Head coach Gernot Rohr selected Marcus to Nigeria's 31-man squad for a friendly against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon next month.
The 21-year-invitation old's came as a shock to Nigerian football fans, who had never heard of him until he was named to the squad.
Following his arrival from Remo Stars Academy in 2018, the versatile midfielder only made his way into CD Feirense's first team this season.
“I told my late father before he passed away that every time I step foot in Europe and have a good season, I will definitely make the national team,” he said.
“My father was a huge football fan who always wanted to see me play for the Super Eagles. So the first thing I did when I saw my name on the list was go straight to the bathroom to relieve myself. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
“I double-checked the name to make sure it wasn't a typo, then called my boss to inquire if this was actually me or anyone else.
“Even when he said it was me, I didn't believe it until my phone began blowing up a few minutes later. That was probably the point at which I realized it was me.
“When I saw my name on the list, I was overjoyed. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
The former COD United midfielder, who has won seven player of the match awards and one player of the month award, is excited to make his Super Eagles debut.
“Having the opportunity to play football is a dream come true for me. My primary aim is to score goals. When I'm on the field, all I want to do is follow the coach's instructions so I can score,” Marcus explained.
“It's an honor to play alongside Nigeria's biggest names, such as Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, Peter Etebo, and Victor Osimhen. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.”
