NFF’s Vision Is To Win World Cup – Akinwunmi

The 1st vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Bar. Seyi Akinwunmi, has revealed that the vision of the current of the management of the football federation is to help the nation’s teams win the FIFA World Cup.

Akinwunmi, while speaking on Sunday after the national U-23 side’s 2-1 win over their Congolese counterparts in Port Harcourt, said the lads played good football, though they could not put away all their chances.

“A lot of Nigerians have been calling on television and over the radio, thanking us that we have shown Nigerians that we have footballers who are committed to winning a football match. That is commendable because we believe that one day; very soon, Nigeria can win the FIFA World Cup. In fact, the plan of the present NFF is to win the FIFA World Cup. What has been lacking much of the time has been the passion for the badge on your chest,” he said.

Akinwunmi urged the players to, at all times, remember that millions of Nigerians pray and fast for the team to win a match and, as such, they must realise that they carry the passion of millions of Nigerians. Challenging the boys to go to Congo and outscore the Devils, in order to ensure a ticket to the 2nd African U-23 Championship which will serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympics.

Also speaking at the same reception, the NFF’s 2nd Vice President, Mallam Shehu Dikko, was happy with the lads for showing that they are the future of Nigeria football, adding that it is not always about winning, but about the future.
“As for the league we have the elite player’s programme for players who do not play in the league, but want to do so to keep in shape. You can come to us at the LMC, we can get you a club and pay you to play for a club. You don’t have to be contracted to the club [to do that],” he said, adding that it is the best option for players to keep fit before they can secure contracts abroad.
