The Nigeria Football Federation has chosen Jose Peseiro as the next head coach of the Super Eagles. At an NFF executive committee meeting on Wednesday, the 61-year-old man was unanimously selected for the position.
According to the NFF, Peseiro will be an observer at the Tournament, which begins on January 9 in Cameroon and will be managed by Augustine Eguavoen.
"However, the Committee decided that Mr. Augustine Eguavoen, who was designated temporary Head Coach, would lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, with Mr. Peseiro serving simply as an observer."
"It was generally agreed that this is an excellent opportunity for Mr. Peseiro to begin working with Mr. Eguavoen, who would resume to his post as Technical Director (therefore Mr. Peseiro's direct supervisor) after the AFCON."
The Portuguese have coached for 29 years, beginning with Uniao Santarem in Portugal. He has also coached in Africa, most recently at Al Ahly in 2015, as well as the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan national teams.
